Show Notes

Today’s question is “Does 'inspiration porn' fuel imposter syndrome for disabled people?” and I’m in conversation with Charlotte Claydon

“I'm 32 years old and live in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. I was born with Cerebral Palsy and use a powered wheelchair to get around. I also have an assistance dog called Lexi, trained through the charity 'Canine Partners' who helps me with everyday tasks like picking up dropped items off the floor and tugging the doors open at home. I also have depression and anxiety, much of which I feel has exasperated from my experiences living with disability. I live in my own home supported by agency carers, which can be incredibly challenging at times, but I have a really supportive family. I've previously worked with my local council and charities to give young disabled people the chance to get their voices heard and influence local issues that affect them.

I started my blog 'Wheelie Yorkshire Lass' because I wanted to raise awareness issues that me and other disabled people are facing, both locally and worldwide, and also to encourage my local community to become more disability aware and more accessible for people with various disabilities.”
